“Had I been in love, I could not have been more wretchedly blind. But vanity, not love, has been my folly.” (Austen 202)
What does this mean? What does it say about Elizabeth?

i wrote my blog on a different topic but my question is…” My fingers do not move over this instrument in the masterly manner which i see so many women’s do. They have not the same force or rapidity, and do not produce the same epression. But then i have always supposed it to be my own fault– because i would no take the trouble of practising. It is not that i do not believe my finfers as capable as any other woman’s of superior execution.” (171).
What is Elizabeth trying to say about Mr. Darcy’s interaction with people by say this statement? Is it metaphoric?
also…how many blogs are due this week? 1 or 2?

my question:
“I do not know anybody who seems more to enjoy the power of doing what he likes than Mr. Darcy.” (179)
would you call Mr. Darcy selfish? Controlling? Motivated?

to answer questions: 1 substantial blog; I think that is what we will do for a while.
GABY & all: the correct MLA citation form: quote” (Austen202). Period AFTER the citation..if it is an ! it should be: blah! (203). Same for ? that is attached to the quotation.
Sara…the site I directed you all to has an e-text of the book. I don’t recommend reading the whole thing that way, but until you get a new copy (I do recommend this) it is one way to keep up with the reading.

“She studied every sentence: and her feelings towards the writer were at times widely different. (Austen, page 206)”
Why does Elizabeth study the letter so much? What opinions has she changed about Darcy?

BM–it might be a better question to ask whether Darcy has changed, or whether Elizabeth’s perception has altered due to the letter. klein

“…I have had the pleasure of your acquaintance long enough to know, that you find great enjoyment in occasionally professing opinions which in fact are not your own.” – p. 170
What does Mr. Darcy mean by this statement to Elizabeth?

Just read the comment above about the right way to cite a quote! This question and the answer are both on my blog!

I posted this under prompts, too but I’ll copy and paste it here:
1. Describe a time of akward silence between you and a person you dislike (e.g. Elizabeth’s first dinner at Rosings, pg. 159-160/chapter 29).
2. In chapter 31, Elizabeth states to Colonel Fitzwilliam that Mr. Darcy will try to give him a false account of her personality. Describe a time when you have tried to make a clean start with someone/at a new place and have been prevented from doing so by a person that you knew previously.
3. Describe a Lady deBourgh in your life–someone who watches your every move and tells you how to live better/do things their way.
4. On pgs 174-175/ in chapter 32, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are talking about how far away from home Charlotte lives. Describe a time when you have felt far away from home. How far is far away from home for you? What factors do you feel influence the distance?

Ok my question was, Why do you think Mr. Darcy loves Elizebeth, is it just because of what he told her, or is it deeper than that?
